Evaluation.
A (Hons.) GRAPHIC DESIGN – END OF MODULE SELF-EVALUATION
Hannah Lloyd.
1. What skills have you developed through this module and how effectively do you think you have applied them?
I have developed skills in many areas, i think this module has been the most enjoyable for me. And is also one of my favourite outcomes. There is the obvious, learning how to use after effetcs. I could have learnt alot more than i did, but because i was doing a stop motion, i just needed to know the basics. however, it is something i am keen to develop because i enjoyed doing animation alot.
I have also learnt skills in storyboarding. I did not think i would be good at this because of my lack of confidence in drawing, but i thought i successfully transferred what whats going on in my head down onto paper, even if they were not amazing pieces of art.
2. What strengths can you identify in your work and how have/will you capitalise on these?
As usual, i find the strength in my work, is the concept. It is something i always try and work out before i design something. Which i think is vital when doing motion design. I think generally my resolution is good, and that it shows that a concept is what carries to a good outcome.
I think i had a large amount of development work, showing how i made decisions along the way, selected the photographs that were most effective and did some re-shoots where necessary. Because i was relying on things falling over the way i wanted it to, it took a few shoots to get the right photographs, it was beyond my control at how they would fall.
I think it is obvious that i have enjoyed this project, and have been motivated, i think this shows through with the style of the animation and the quantity of work.
3. What weaknesses can you identify in your work and how could you exploit these more fully?
I have picked up on a few weaknesses, some of the scenes in the resolution are a bit jumpy and may not be as smooth as possible. I started off using my camera at home to do some tests, the photos came out a bit grainy, but then i started to see this a strength and thought it would be useful to portray what i want. It has more of an old fashioned feel to it, and adds to the "retro" feel. I got some feedback from this, and people seemed to agree. I was worried it would come across as just being poorly done.
4. Identify four things that you will do different next time and what do you expect to gain from doing these
1. Use the studio more. For this project, the home environment for taking photographs was more suitable to my project, but for all other projects it is essential to use the studio.
2. Improve time management, so that I have time to create or do everything that I want to.
3. Show more people my work, get feedback before i have finished! I need to be more confident with my work, and feel i can show it to anyone. They are just going to give me ways to improve it.
5.How would you grade yourself on the following areas:
(please indicate using an ‘x’)
5= excellent, 4 = very good, 3 = good, 2 = average, 1 = poor
Attendance 3
Punctuality 4
Motivation 5
Commitment 4
